Obama meets this afternoon with foundation and business leaders to discuss “My Brother’s Keeper,” an initiative designed to help young African-American and Hispanic men.
This initiative is historic on many levels. President Obama knows all too well the hard realities of Chicago streets, whether first hand or as a bystander, is of little concern.
If every black male killed in America was met with a community program, or interactive initative to keep our boys and young men out of harms way by reshaping pervasive destructive values, the less mortality our communities will experience. 1 in 3 black men will experience some type of incarceration within their lifetime, in urban areas. That statistic does not lend to productivity nor thrive in any community let alone OURS.
I hear Michelle Obama all throughout this ‘movement’. But to our Chief, I say bravo and great work sir! The message is well sent that we may not be in every corner of America to prevent modern lynching but we better damn well be on each street corner reclaiming OUR OWN CHILDREN before there is ever a chance for ill intent takes them away permanently.
