Julianne Hough, 25, donned blackface for her costume recently, which she completed with an orange jumpsuit and Crazy Eyes’ signature bantu knots. The actress attended the Casamigos Tequila Halloween party in Hollywood with friends, who appear to have all gone as the cast of the hit Netflix series.
The former dancer justified her antics with a twitter post stating:

GLOBAL GRIND reported more acts of baphoonery that really escape all reason. There are surely deep rooted psychologically motives for willingly blotting out the entire tone of one’s own skin to emulate someone or a group of people that look totally different from one’s authentic self, but that will not be explored here.
The fact that people defy convention to disrespect others is what is important. It is widely known that this type of behavior is NOT acceptable, yet it is done to evoke laughter or as a joke. What is the joke? Would white people be equally as offended if people of color dyed their hair blonde, wore color contacts, and articulated every syllable with a nasal refrain? Oh wait, that happens on a regular basis. People of color attempt to assimilate into the white culture all of the time, in an effort to escape their own condition or to attain higher levels of success.
Perhaps those putting on the black faces actually desire to be of color but can never admit that to their white counterparts so the manifestation of that secret fantasy is contorted into something that is easily digested. Perhaps…
