In the case of the Central Park Jogger, a young white woman was raped in Central Park (1989)- five young men were wrongfully accused of a crime that they did not commit. The question becomes how many other young black and latino men who have not had the blessing of an overturned verdict, remain incarcerated under ‘trumped’ up charges?
Five boys ranging from ages 14-17 (at the time of incident) were persecuted by letters of the law that did not exist. The confessions given by the youth were coersed AND inconsistent from one another. Furthermore, there was absolutely no DNA evidence linking the young men to the crime.
The moments were striking. The moment that the one juror that held the contention that the boys were innocent, conceded because he was tired. The moment that one of the boys met the actual killer face to face in the same prison was critical in turning the tides of fate for the five. Had the boy approached the actual killer with malice, anger and vengence-the willingness to take responsibility for the rape may not have ever occurred. The moment that the father of Santana prayed when his son has lost every faith. The moment that the father left his son and wife to fend for themselves among the hailstorm, impacted that child until his father passed.
It was very interesting that Donald Trump had any part in this judicial matter. It seems he has alot to say about sociopolitical issues, but rest assured his money is speaking loud and clear in the decision process regarding the outcome of said matters #BigBusiness.
The lasting effects that this experience had on these innocent boys is indeliable. There is no taking back what they saw and experienced while in these hardened institutions. The psychological effects have shaped the lives of these five as well as everyone in their immediate families. If for whatever reason any of the five relapse at some point within their life, the effects could reach well beyond them and could impact many others as well.
At present the five seem to have moved on with their lives….joyfully.
THIS DOCUMENTARY WAS BEAUTIFULLY DONE!!
