The Congresswoman will resign within the next few days to focus on recovery.

Of particular note were the President’s committment to 1) bringing jobs stateside, 2) requiring all states to reduce drop out rates in education by mandating that all students continue education until the age of 18 or until graduation, 3) getting jobs for veteran’s and the best of all 4) getting big business out of the pockets of politicians!

In an era where lily white pundants are more concerned about the volume of the first ladies posterior rather than the merits that launched her into the “RIGHT HAND WOMAN” position- Black women still are questioned, denied, chastized and minimized despite successes because of false perceptions conceived by those who know nothing of what the weight of this world feels like.

Having a mate who is an equal rather than a combatant is the issue that many brown women face. Here a survey has been conducted by the Washington Post and Kaiser Permanente to unearth the specific reasons why Black women are not rushing to the alter. The reasons are psycho social for the most part and have resonated into our communities.

Career for black women has always been about economic necessity and also a sense of economic destiny,”

says White, editor of the nation’s oldest black women’s magazine, Essence.

Despite miraculous income and educational gains for generations, the social and economic advancement of black women has always been precarious,” says Paula J. Giddings, who teaches at Smith College and has written about the political and social history of black women. “All of our wealth and all of the generational aspiration can disappear — just evaporate — if you lose your house, your health, if you have to take care of a needy family member or if you can’t get that loan to continue college.”

But there is also this, according to interviews with black women: Many were not raised to expect that they could marry a fairy-tale Prince Charming who would take care of them, provide for the family, leave them with no worries.

No, this was not the writer’s conditioned perception of things. My grandmother’s grandmother taught the women of the family “Not to ever rely on a pair of pants to provide for you and yours”. The harsh notion was instilled in all of the girls as a result of years of their men being sold and/or killed and them having to be left to raise the abundance of “field hands” that they made together. Fairy tales have never been factored into the queenly robes that the women in my family adorn. If anything, a slight distain was ingrained so that reliance was NEVER an expectation.

Things have not changed, if anything they have gotten considerably worse. There was a time when the radio and television stations offered all that a viewer needed with regards to a ‘balanced’ exposure to the culture that await them on the other side of the dwelling door. Now viewers must go to specific stations in order to find their favorites. BET offers shows for and about Black people (though they are owned and operated by a very Anglo conglomerate), Food Network offers shows about cooking, MTV offers the Top 40 type of music with splashes of crazy “TV-ality” shows.

All in all everything is becoming more and more categorized, organized and RESEGREGATED…only this time its by what perceives to be mass choice.

Economy has further stratified groups by enabling certains castes to live more robustly than those who may not have the means to engage. Education is a prime example of that which will be signficantly impacted by the have and have not mode of operation. Very bright and talented students will be tossed by the wayside while generally less motivated students rise through the proverbial ranks to achieve a certain level of credential while they labor, toil and lose their will to participate in a system that has all but segregated against them for no other reason but the lack of coins in their pockets.

Throw in gender pay disparity and we’ve got the recession/economic disparity the nation has seen of late.

This ‘observation’ is nothing new. As a matter of fact, many of us are living this reality. The issue now becomes “do we accept the status quo” or demand that the drivers of this ride fix this upside down capitalistic notion of effectual human preservation. It is wholly ridiculous to keep approximately 2,000 people fat, fed and happy while the rest of us starve culturally, academically, socially, financially,….hell literally!

I smell an “Occupy Society” movement!!!
